Dynamics of Disruption and Recovery in Air Transportation Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Flight delays occur in the air transportation system when disruptive events such as weather, equipment outage, or congestion create an imbalance between capacity and demand. These cycles of disruptions subsequent recoveries can be viewed from a dynamical systems perspective: exogenous inputs (convective airspace restrictions, etc.) disrupt system, inducing inefficiencies which eventually recovers. We study these disruption recovery through state-space representation that captures severity spatial impact airport delays. In particular, using US delay data 2008-2017, we first identify representative cycles. provide insights into common operational patterns system. also relate to specific off-nominal outages, elucidate differing disruption-recovery pathways for various events. Finally, explore temporal trends terms how tends disrupted, recovery.

The Dynamics of Air Transportation System Transition
Both U.S. and European Air Transportation Systems face substantial challenges in transforming to meet future demand. This paper uses a feedback model to identify and describe key issues in the dynamics of system transition, with particular emphasis on stakeholder cost-benefit dynamics and processes for reviewing and implementing new system capabilities. Understanding of these dynamics is furthe...
متن کاملJamming transition in air transportation networks
In this work we present a model of an air transportation traffic system from the complex network modelling viewpoint. In the network, every node corresponds to a given airport, and two nodes are connected by means of flight routes. Each node is weighted according to its load capacity, and links are weighted according to the Euclidean distance that separates each pair of nodes. Local rules descr...
متن کاملScalability and Evolutionary Dynamics of Air Transportation Networks in the United States
With the growing demand for air transportation and the limited ability to increase capacity at key points in the air transportation system, there are concerns that, in the future, the system will not scale to meet demand. This situation will result in the generation and the propagation of delays throughout the system, impacting passengers’ quality of travel and more broadly the economy. There i...
متن کاملTransportation dynamics on networks of mobile agents
Most existing works on transportation dynamics focus on networks of a fixed structure, but networks whose nodes are mobile have become widespread, such as cell-phone networks. We introduce a model to explore the basic physics of transportation on mobile networks. Of particular interest is the dependence of the throughput on the speed of agent movement and the communication range. Our computatio...
